 Plastics Engineer- Medical Device Materials

Salary Minimum: $75,000 to $90,000 plus bonus

 

We seek a Plastics Engineer with experience in disposable medical device materials selection and injection molding and extrusion process improvement.  The employer is a supplier of high quality medical device plastic disposables.  The company is in the early stages of an expansion project that will add production capacity for new products and increasing sales of existing products.

Responsibilities:

The Plastic Materials Engineer will provide technical leadership in the selection of polymer materials for new products and replacement materials for existing products.  In addition, the Plastics Engineer will be a member of a team of engineers working on the development and implementation of innovative, advanced manufacturing systems. Duties include:

 

  • Leads materials qualification projects and assures materials meet FDA and other regulatory requirements for use in medical device applications.
  • Ensures the production and maintenance of all FDA/ISO required documentation regarding materials selection, testing, and qualification.
  • Works with R&D, Manufacturing, and Material Vendors to ensure that selected materials meet functional and cost requirements for specific applications.
  • Supports and advises on tooling design, process capability studies, and quality issues.
  • Provides engineering and technical support for new product transfers from R&D to manufacturing.
  • Provides engineering and technical support for injection molding and extrusion process, materials, tooling and methods troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • Stays abreast of materials research by collaborating with material suppliers and scientists, attending technical seminars, and literature review. 

 

Requirements include:

  • BS Plastics, Materials, or Polymer Engineering.   MS Degree preferred.
  • Not less than 6 to 10 years of experience in the manufacture of Extruded or Injection Molded Plastic Medical Disposable Products.  (Automotive, Aerospace, or other non FDA Regulated Industry experience is not applicable to this position).
  • Candidates must have specific experience in the selection and testing of polymer materials for applications in FDA regulated Class II and III medical devices.
  • Candidates will be tested for knowledge of materials composition, assessment, and FDA regulations and standards for medical device applications.
  • Must be legally eligible for employment in the United States without visa sponsorship.
