The Company is a leading custom injection molder with multiple Midwestern plants and plans for growth in the future. The Iowa facility operates presses ranging from 40 to 3,000 tons and offers tooling, engineering design, assembly and finishing to a broad range of customers. We seek an experienced Engineering Manager to direct the Corporate Engineering Services Team-including Product and Tooling Design, Plastics Engineering and the Materials Laboratory
Responsibilities:
The Technology Manager will direct the Corporate Engineering Services Team for the Thermoset and Thermoplastic business units at all plant locations, including Product Design, Tool Design, Plastics Engineering, and the Materials Laboratory. Duties include:
- Develops custom part and tool designs that meet customer expectations and internal requirements for manufacturing productivity, repeatability, and quality control.
- Applies a strong working knowledge of plastics part design, tool design, materials, and molding processes while participating in the new product development process, continuous improvement teams, customer visits/trips, prototyping, production launches, and business development activities.
- Prepares and/or interprets part drawings, part models, MoldFlow and Finite Element Analyses (FEA), and presents the results both internally and externally to confirm the part and tool designs are optimized for application, product performance and manufacturability.
- Liaisons with internal Tool Rooms and external Tool Suppliers to ensure that predictable and robust molds are designed and built.
- Provides leadership and initiative to apply existing technologies and to develop new plastics technologies to the strategic advantage of the company. Researches and recommends technology advancement ideas in the areas of product and tool design, tooling, prototyping, plastics engineering, product launch, material development, and problem solving methodologies.
- Develops long-term goals and objectives for the Engineering Services group, including a strategic plan, budget, team structure, and supporting procedures.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending trade shows and educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing networks, writing white papers, and participating in professional societies.
- Maintains appropriate project documentation files, including drawings, specifications and customer information (inputs & outputs), that meets internal and ISO requirements.
Requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Plastics Engineering, Technology or Engineering field. An advanced degree is strongly desired.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive engineering and management experience working in the injection molding plastics industry with a progressive track record of integrity, professionalism and advancement. Experience with Lean Principles, advanced product quality planning (APQP), and in-mold process sensing technology is a plus.
- Superior technical expertise, and hands-on experience with plastics injection molding; including product design, tool design, material selection, and processing.
- A mechanical aptitude and strong mathematical skills with the ability to develop new and critique existing product designs, tool designs, and molding process parameters.
- A creative ability to develop unique technical solutions that help customers convert metal to plastic, solve problems, improve a part design and/or application, reduce cost, and make their jobs easier.
- Ability to effectively present technical information one-on-one, to larger groups, and at all levels of an organization (internal or external) while motivating the audience to share a common vision.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously wile working in a team-based environment with good problem solving, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong PC skills, experience with Microsoft Office, and hands –on capability using design software (Pro E, Solid Works, Mold Flow)
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to travel, including random overnight travel (2-3 nights per month)

Compensation:
