Packaging Engineer-Consumer Products

Client is a global consumer product manufacturer with operations throughout the United States as well as Mexico, Europe, and Asia.  Products include a broad range well known personal care brand names that utilize advanced, innovative packaging to maintain and increase market share.  We are looking for an experienced Packaging Engineer to drive the continual development of world class packaging systems.

Responsibilities:

The Senior Packaging Engineer will manage the development of new packaging and product concepts and the implementation of best-in-class packaging globally across all business units. The focus of the position will be to design and develop packaging, products, tooling, and process technology. The Packaging Engineer will provide expert advice and technical support to management and local manufacturing locations.   Duties will include:

• Evaluate, Select, and Manage external suppliers and vendors in the development of new packaging.
• Manage the technical and engineering aspects for the commercialization of new packaging as it relates to new products, alternative materials, product restages, and cost reduction initiatives.
• Develop and design packaging that uses the best combination of existing components and materials.  Generate new concept ideas and solve problems to fulfill business needs.
• Deliver packaging that offers new functional features, reduction in product costs, and incorporation of new styling concepts.
• Manage 3rd party vendors and design agencies to develop and deliver models and prototypes suitable for customer presentations and packaging evaluations.
• Maintain technical competence in a wide variety of materials, processes and design aspects applicable to the company products.
• Determine conformance of packaging and/or products to federal and other standards and specifications.
• Prepare engineering estimates, savings analysis, and project justification for capital projects.
• Manage multiple projects at the same time to include: planning, timelines, capital expenditures, technology transfer, achievement of cost targets, and delivery of designs/information from external suppliers/vendors.
• Prepare patent disclosures and review patent applications as appropriate.
• Evaluate competitive packaging and/or products.

Requirements include:

• BS Packaging Engineering or Equivalent
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in the development of packaging for mass produced consumer items. 
• Specific skills and advanced training in design with practical knowledge of packaging materials;      molding, thermoforming, blister packaging processes; plastics; and tooling.

• CAD Skills
• Specific experience managing external vendors and suppliers.
• Ability to travel internationally.
• Must be fluent in English.  Additional language skills helpful.
